Whats the position?

We're seeking a Staff Data Engineer to join our rapidly expanding data engineering team. In this role, you'll be a key technical contributor, supporting cutting-edge technology, operations, and business needs. You'll work with massively distributed datasets, architect and implement big data infrastructure, and apply your passion for data and sports to drive our success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure
  • Optimize data storage and retrieval systems for performance and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven solutions
  • Implement best practices for data governance, security, and quality
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team's technical direction

What are we looking for?

Basic Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with Java, including proficiency in:
  • Identifying and debugging issues like memory leaks and garbage collection pauses
  • Strong understanding of distributed and event-driven systems:
  • Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, or similar distributed ledgers
  • Familiarity with message queues and pub/sub protocols (e.g., SQS, SNS)
  • Expertise in relational and NoSQL databases:
  • Experience with DynamoDB or similar NoSQL solutions (e.g., Cassandra)
  • Ability to explain database strengths and trade-offs

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Knowledge of analytical database platforms:
  • Experience with Clickhouse/TinyBird or ability to explain systems like Apache Pinot
  • Understanding of when to use analytical databases vs. relational or NoSQL solutions
  • Python proficiency for Airflow or batch jobs
  • AWS suite expertise:
  • Ability to build data pipelines using Lambda + SQS
  • Experience with Terraform and Kubernetes:
  • Capability to build infrastructure for projects using Terraform
  • Kubernetes troubleshooting and management skills
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
