Job Description:
Who Are We?

Postman is the world's leading API platform, used by more than 30 million developers and 500,000 organizations, including 98% of the Fortune 500. Postman is helping developers and professionals across the globe build the API-first world by simplifying each step of the API lifecycle and streamlining collaboration—enabling users to create better APIs, faster.

The company is headquartered in San Francisco and has an office in Bangalore, where it was founded. Postman is privately held, with funding from Battery Ventures, BOND, Coatue, CRV, Insight Partners, and Nexus Venture Partners. Learn more at postman.com or connect with Postman on Twitter via @getpostman.

This is an 0-1 initiative. With Postman Insights, our vision is to help guide a developer with little previous experience—in both the system being monitored and the Postman API Platform—to productively find and fix issues. Our goal is to be able to help any developer locate API endpoints causing potential issues within 15 minutes of signing up for an account. This will empower even a new developer to find and fix issues in their first days on the job, as easily as they can call an API today.

As we prepare to launch our open beta, we're looking for a Staff Fullstack Software Engineer to help us bring our Postman Insights product to life. Right now, we've launched an alpha to a small number of users and we've learned a lot from that launch. To deliver our intended developer experience, we'll need to iterate with our users to get the UX right. The goal is to be the best product in the world for our main workflow ahead of beta launch.

We're looking for an experienced engineer who is excited not only about hands-on building as we ship and iterate on a weekly basis to get our product ready for GA, but who can also serve as a role model and mentor to other engineers. This role involves making key technical decisions and improvements to the system, as well as effectively making impact through influence within and across teams that span multiple time zones.

What you'll do
  • Lead the development of new capabilities for the Postman Insights product, driving both the frontend architecture and backend API development to improve user experience at scale.
  • Spend approximately 50% of your time coding, rapidly developing core features. The remaining time will be dedicated to mentoring and leveling up the engineering team, facilitating internal and external communication, and reviewing and making key technical decisions.
  • Architect and implement scalable, high-performance systems that enable rapid iteration and experimentation on core product features while maintaining system reliability.
  • Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence across the team. Be a role model for the team.
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication within your team and across cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment and unblocking any challenges to achieve business goals.
About You

We're looking for a skilled engineer who combines technical leadership with hands-on coding. You excel at solving complex problems, mentoring others, and delivering scalable systems quickly and pragmatically, driving high-impact projects from concept to completion.

Must Have:
  • Product and user-focused mindset. You have the ability to deeply understand your users' needs and are skilled at translating them into well-scoped technical solutions.
  • Moves fast. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are excited about rapidly iterating on features to achieve business goals.
  • Pragmatic problem solver. You get excited about figuring out the minimal, most efficient way to build the next feature.
  • Leadership and mentoring. You have experience guiding teams, fostering technical excellence, and serving as a role model for your peers.
  • Hands-on coding. You're eager to roll up your sleeves and spend 50% of your time coding, with a focus on delivering core features quickly while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Expert in system architecture. You have a deep understanding of building scalable, high-performance systems that allow rapid iteration and experimentation.
  • Strong communication skills. You excel at facilitating clear and effective communication within your team and across departments, ensuring alignment and proactively unblocking challenges to achieve business goals.
  • Remote collaboration. You effectively collaborate across time zones, ensuring team engagement and alignment.
Must have:
  • 10+ years of software development experience
  • Track record of delivering high-impact, user-facing products.
  • Demonstrated solid ability to mentor and develop other engineers
  • Hands-on coding experience, with recent examples of contributing significantly to core features in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Strong experience in communicating across teams, aligning stakeholders, and unblocking challenges to ensure business goals are met.
  • Experience working with remote and distributed teams across time zones.
  • Substantial overlap with the Pacific Time Zone.
Nice-to-have:
  • Experience working on a 0-to-1 product.
  • Experience working on B2B products.
  • Experience working on developer tools.
  • Experience working on data-heavy UX.
Our Values:

At Postman, we create with the same curiosity that we see in our users. We value transparency & honest communication about not only successes, but also failures. In our work, we focus on specific goals that add up to a larger vision. Our inclusive work culture ensures that everyone is valued equally as important pieces of our final product. We are dedicated to delivering the best products we can.

What Else?

This role is based in the greater San Francisco Bay area, and we offer a base salary range of $253,000 to $297,000 as well as shares. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to our pay-on-performance philosophy, we offer a comprehensive set of benefits, including full medical coverage, flexible PTO, wellness reimbursement, and a monthly lunch stipend. Salaries will vary outside of the listed metropolitan areas & the U.S.
