The Department of Pathology is seeking a Donor Center Nurse for our in-house blood and platelet collections team at the UI DeGowin Blood Center. This is your opportunity to be part of the unit that helps supply UI Health Care with life-saving blood products provided by healthy, volunteer donors. This is done through screening blood donors for eligibility, collecting donor samples, and then ensuring our donors are well taken care of during and after their donation. This position is 100% time, Monday-Friday with occasional weekends, 8- or 10-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:30 pm.
Duties to include:
* Screens prospective whole blood and apheresis donors and performs physical examination of the donor using standard interview forms and/or donor computer software.
* Obtains donor samples for determination of laboratory values. Draws pretest, retest and other blood samples as assigned.
* Performs phlebotomy, drawing whole blood units.
* May participate in off-site blood collection.
* Performs record keeping and data collection using manual and computer methods.
* Performs blood component harvesting utilizing cell separators.
* Supervise designated collection staff as directed.

Required Qualifications:
* An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
* Current license to practice professional nursing in Iowa.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
* Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with blood donors, patients, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
* General computer skills are required.
* Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task.
Desirable Qualifications:
* 1-3 years acute care nursing experience.
* Previous experience using electronic medical records.
* Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
* Experience working in a blood donor or apheresis center.
* Experience using highly specialized medical equipment.
