General Description:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities for the assigned residents in accordance with current federal and state guidelines, established nursingcare procedures, and as may be directed by the Resident Care Coordinator, Assistant Director of Nursing or the Director of Nursing.
Essential Functions:
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional aspect of the position.
Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the facility.
Educational Requirements:
Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Must be a Registered Professional Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with a license to practice in New York.
Specific Requirements:
Must be able to write the English language in a legible and understanding manner.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Must be a minimum of 18 yrs. of age.
Must be knowledgeable of regulations and guidelines that pertain to Long Term Care.
Must work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing work practices.
Working Conditions:
Works in well lighted and ventilated office areas.
Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, visitors, personnel, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, visitors and personnel.
Communicates with staff and other department supervisors.
Is willing to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.
Attends and participates in continuing educational program designed to keep abreast of changes in Long Term Care as necessary.
