Department Summary The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic bench-top science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease. Position Overview This position will provide indirect and direct care to research participants. Will use clinical assessment skills, collect research data, and manage and administer study drug with clinician's guidance. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Nursing and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A current unrestricted Texas RN license is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Clinical Trial Experience Preferred Phlebotomy Experience Preferred (ex. Drawing clinical labs) Intravenous (IV) Infusion Experience Required Administering IV medications Required Preferred Qualifications A current unrestricted Texas RN License is required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (RN) and three (3) years experience Required License/Registration/Certifications A current unrestricted Texas RN License is required. Job Duties: Screens patients (vital signs & other screening procedures) which may include history and physical, and preparation of the participant for examination; escorts participant to the exam room Prescreening and clinical histories. Obtain participant consent, data collection, perform research visits with any required procedures, and clinical/research documentation May obtain blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid (assist clinician), and/or other specimens for lab tests. Manage and administer study drug with clinician's guidance. Completes forms for lab, imaging, and other research procedures Maintains participant confidentiality and optimal participant flow during a clinic visit Keeps exam rooms stocked, clean and neat Monitors and orders supplies as needed Assists clinicians with research participants, exams, diagnostic, and research related procedures. Clinical trials documentation as required. Quality control of research files. Assists in keeping clinicians on schedule & communicating schedule revisions/updates. Schedules appointments, procedures and diagnostic tests. Answers participant phone calls; makes follow-up calls & research related calls to participants & potential participants. Triages call to clinicians; handles the matter if the call does not require a physician. On call coverage as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
