Job DescriptionPurpose of Position: Under the immediate direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing Quality Management the HAI Staff Nurse (QM) assists and coordinates the Performance Improvement activities of the Nursing Department with special interest and focus on health care infections. The HAI Stewardship Nurse collaborates with various Departments of Nursing and Medicine, and the Stewardship Team in planning and implementing daily operations and tasks of the Nursing quality and Stewardship Team. He/She supports the infection and quality surveillance, education, audits, and implementation of nursing quality standards guided by the hospital policies and procedures, Joint Commission standards, and other regulatory agency standards.Functional duties and responsibilities:1. Acts as a liaison with other hospital departments to assure coordination, standardization and continuity of HAI prevention activities.2. Assists Nursing Quality and Stewardship Team in implementing the daily operations and tasks.3. Act as a clinical resource personnel for central line maintenance and Foley insertion bundle4. Generates daily report of all CVAD and Foley lines.5. Conducts Daily surveillance rounding in collaboration with unit leadership.6. Provides feedback to nursing leadership and Stewardship Team about the result of the surveillance round.7. Monitors and evaluates staff compliance with policies and practices designed to reduce HAIs, including all the elements of the Central Line and Foley Maintenance Bundle, as well as other established standard patient care practices (e.g. hand hygiene, appropriate use of PPE during line insertion and maintenance).8. Monitors adherence to the standards of care and practice related to CLABSI and CAUTI9. Bundles.10. Complete Central Line data sheet, which includes information such as line type, clinical data, indications for line, and dressing changes. He/she will update this daily and share with Nursing Quality.11. Communicate with Nursing Quality and Stewardship Team members to determine whether line are in compliance with Bellevue policies.12. Provide education to nursing and physician team related to central line policies, line insertion, maintenance, and removal, and other topics as needed.13. Participate in CLABSI and CAUTI Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process with the primary clinical team as CLABSI/CAUTI is identified.14. Maintain close liaison with other hospital departments to assure coordination, standardization, and continuity of HAI prevention activities.
Minimum Qualifications1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).Special Note:For assignments in Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN. These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit.
