The Staff Nurse is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health team and assumes responsibility for the standard of nursing care delivery in the clinic setting. QUALIFICATIONS
- Registered nurse or Licensed Practical nurse currently licensed to practice in the state of Oklahoma
- Experience in ambulatory care
- Possess strong clinical and teaching skills.
- Able to assume a leadership role in a team environment.
- Strong interest in working with an interdisciplinary health team and culturally diverse patient population

- Proactively assumes the responsibility for the standard of nursing care delivery and customer service in the clinical areas.
- Knowledgeable of the scope of practice for all nursing disciplines as described by the Nurse Practice Act.
- Able to effectively plan, oversee, direct, and evaluate all nursing activities in the clinical area. Appropriately delegates tasks to team members to maximize resources.
- Assumes responsibility for and demonstrates ability to effectively organize and prioritize work and available resources to maintain efficient patient flow in the clinic.
- Manipulates the nursing schedule as necessary to maintain the best possible nurse/provider ratio, considering numbers, skill levels, cost effectiveness.
- Effectively manages completion of routine clinic tasks. Establishes methods to ensure consistency in maintaining emergency supplies, stock medications, vaccines, forms, sterile instrument inventory, equipment, appropriate exam room inventory, etc.
- Able to act as a primary resource in emergency situations.
- Actions show commitment to team effort, works well with others, supports group objectives, and participates in staff meetings and team problem solving.
Direct and Indirect Patient Care/Clinic Responsibilities
- Follows protocols and performs accurate and thorough work-ups and check-ins of all patients.
- Accurately assesses current patient status as well as preventive health status and communicates needs to provider.
- Initiates and provides accurate patient education based on assessment of patient needs and clinic standards of nursing care, and documents in patient record.
- Provides skilled nursing care as demonstrated by safely and accurately performing technical skills (sterile dressings, EKGs, pulmonary treatments, etc.) and the safe accurate administration of medications, IV fluids, and immunizations.
- Anticipates the needs of providers related to patient visits and assists providers as needed.
- Exhibits caring qualities consistent with the values of the Great Salt Plains Health Center.
- Assumes role of patient advocate to ensure health needs are met, to include responding to patient phone messages and requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Documents all provider orders, nursing actions, and interventions on patient record consistent with guidelines, and utilizes approved abbreviations.
- Appropriately triages patients on-site and via telephone during hours of operation and after-hours when on-call for appropriateness and timeliness of care per approved triage protocols and standing orders.
- Knowledgeable of and follows all established Infection Control guidelines and OSHA standards and participates in staff training events.
- Performs approved laboratory testing, to include proper handling and labeling of all test samples, according to health center policy and procedure, and as allowed by CLIA guidelines.
- Keeps patients and families informed of situations that affect the clinic visit, i.e., extended waiting times, seeing provider other than originally scheduled, etc.
- Performs other duties incidental to work.
