This professional position involves the monitoring of patient therapy, distribution of patient medications, and compounding of various solutions and dosage forms. The position requires a constant monitoring of daily operations to assure a smooth flow of drug distribution, record keeping, quality assurance and rational drug therapy.
Essential Functions, Demonstrates ability to read, analyze and interpret pharmacy related journals. Demonstrates the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Demonstrates the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract variables. * Demonstrates ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as dosage calculations. * Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies ,or members of the hospital staff. * Ability to assist management in specialized projects. * Compounds, preserves and dispenses all medication orders as written by an authorized practitioner on the staff. * Reviews medication orders and pharmacy profiles to ensure that appropriate, quality pharmacy services are being provided to our patients. * Provides and documents drug information furnished to practitioners. * Prepares appropriate legal records and required hospital documentation. * Dispenses controlled drugs to patient care areas in accordance with department policies and procedures. * Ensures that the Pharmacy and all pharmacy equipment is maintained in a sanitary condition. * Performs monthly nursing unit inspections as scheduled by Pharmacy Management. * Performs patient discharge interviews, and patient counseling where applicable and warranted. * Aseptically prepares parenteral nutrition, intravenous piggybacks, irrigating solutions and chemotherapy in keeping with department policies and procedures. * Maintains all emergency kits/carts/boxes distributed throughout the hospital. * Performs all other duties as required.Position Requirements* This position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years job-related experience.* Desired (not required) criteria include: Active membership in at least one professional pharmacy organization. Basic computer knowledge. Hospital Pharmacy Experience - at least 2 years.* Pharmacist, New York State Pharmacist, New York State.* Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy.* Clinical Pharmacy, hospital experience.
