Job Description:

Who we are

Kojin Therapeutics, Inc. is harnessing groundbreaking discoveries in cell-state and ferroptosis biology to develop first-in-class treatments for use in patients with various forms of cancer, as well as cardiovascular, immunologic, hepatic, and degenerative diseases. Named after the Japanese deity that tamed fire for the good of humanity, Kojin is located in Boston's Seaport biotech neighborhood. We have developed a drug-discovery platform that integrates computational chemistry, structural biology, chemical biology, target-informed screening, and mechanism-driven pharmacology to develop small-molecule therapeutics that specifically modulate ferroptosis, a newly discovered form of programmed cell death. Kojin is backed by a strong syndicate of top-tier investors, led by an experienced biotechnology and pharmaceutical-industry leadership team, and driven by creative, dedicated professionals.

Who we are seeking to join our team

Kojin Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and collaborative scientist to join our growing biology team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in key areas of chemical biology. The candidate should enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team comprised of biologists, translational pharmacologists, medicinal chemists, enzymologists, and DMPK experts working on the development of novel therapeutics.

Typical responsibilities for this role include:

  • Developing and applying innovative chemical biology methods to enable target validation and small-molecule characterization, with a focus on chemoproteomics and activity-based protein profiling
  • Identifying and implementing creative techniques to study covalent ligands
  • Designing and running experiments to support multiple drug discovery programs in parallel
  • Preparing samples for proteomic analysis and collaborating closely with our mass spectrometry team on data acquisition and analysis
  • Generating, analyzing, and interpreting data and communicating results
  • Supporting day-to-day laboratory needs, including management and maintenance of reagents, organization of inventories, and administrative responsibilities
  • Supervising research associates and contributing to the coordination of activities at external CROs
  • Cultivating a work environment focused on scientific excellence, integrity, and collaboration

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Chemical Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • 2+ years of postdoctoral experience applying chemical biology and molecular biology techniques to small-molecule drug discovery in an industry or academic setting
  • Strong background in chemical biology techniques applied to target engagement and functional characterization of ligands in cellular assays
  • Demonstrated expertise in chemoproteomics, activity-based protein profiling, and characterization of covalent and non-covalent ligands
  • Familiarity with common molecular and cell biology techniques to support ligand characterization (e.g., western blotting, cell culture, assay development, in vitro viability assays)
  • Strong publication record demonstrating creative applications of chemical biology approaches to study small-molecule mechanisms of action
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to translate high-level scientific ideas into specific experimental plans
  • Strong organizational skills and capacity to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present scientific data
