Purpose: The Nursing Staff Development Coordinator provides education, training, consultative and support services to the management team, staff and patients.

Duties and Responsibilities for Nursing Staff Development Coordinator:

Determines learning needs of staff in using a variety of methods in order to maintain or improve their competency.

Conducts formal and informal competency assessments with staff and nursing leadership.

Utilizes data collected by PI, Nursing Leadership, Nursing Standards, staff and nursing leadership to develop educational offerings.

Collaborates with members of the nursing leadership team to determine unit specific educational needs.

Presents educational programs in an organized, effective and professional manner utilizing the principles of adult learning.

Keeps staff aware of educational offering via the intranet, e-mail, flyers, etc.

Utilizes a variety of educational designs to create an adult learning environment.

In conjunction with the Nursing Leadership Team, assists in the growth and development of staff.

Obtains information regarding educational offerings, professional advancement and professional organizations.

Develops working relationships with academic centers and arranges for opportunities in which staff interact with representatives from these centers.

Rounds on the nursing units identifying opportunities to support, guide and consult with nurses on practice issues.

Coordinates with Human Resource to plan a smooth and organized transition for the orientees.

Assesses the learning needs of the orientees and plans a comprehensive orientation.

Collaborates with the clinical managers to select the appropriate preceptor for each orientee.

Qualification:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • License Practical Nurse (LPN) license
