Job Duties: Provide a college student with the opportunity to gain experience in the environmental science field which will provide them critical experience for their career.
Major Task to be Performed: Assist with data entry in BIMS and Laserfiche for the 401 & Buffer Permitting staff, communicate effectively with other staff members, other regulators, the regulated public is essential. Collect, analyze and manipulate information/data. Excellent customer service is required to deal effectively, fairly, and professionally with the public, regulated community, and colleagues. Review detailed technical information and spot potential inaccuracies. The ability to work outdoors during inclement weather conditions, walk in heavily vegetated areas, walk in streams, and steep terrain.
Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: Assist the 401 & Buffer Permitting Branch with the review of existing projects, enter technical information such as emails into data entry systems, and conduct site visits with permitting staff.
Academic Majors Desired: Currently pursuing a major in environmental science, biology, geology, ecology, natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum.
2024 State of North Carolina Internship Period: Monday, May 19 - Friday, July 25, 2025
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, databases and spreadsheets, and must be able to work independently.
* An applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college, university, law school, community college or technical institute in North Carolina or a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution out of state.
* Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
* Applicant must be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2025.
* Applicants must be continuing their education in the fall following their participation in the program.
* To qualify for a law internship, applicants must have completed at least one year of law school before the beginning of the internship, unless other majors are listed.
* Students having previously held paid internships with this program are not eligible to apply.
* Applicants must be willing and able to work full-time for the entire 10-week internship. Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.
