Job Description:

We are currently hiring for a leadership role in State Street Global Advisors. In this role as Managing Director, Head of US Insurance, you will be part of the Client Coverage Group (CCG). You will be responsible for developing and leading the strategy for our largest Insurance client relationships in the US, across General Account platforms. Reporting to the Head of Solutions Sales, you will develop, refine, and execute the firm's strategy at our largest Insurance clients to successfully distribute SSGA's wide range of investment capabilities. Given your understanding of the industry, you will help to identify the future state of the insurance landscape and effectively prepare and position SSGA to meet future challenges and opportunities in the insurance segment. You will be responsible for executing a sales and client retention strategy that aligns State Street's commercial objectives with our clients' needs. This requires promoting the State Street Global Advisors value proposition and building our presence, visibility, and revenue.

You should possess deep knowledge of the market, strong investment acumen, and proven experience building a sales team and strategy while driving strategic initiatives in the insurance client base. You should bring consultative relationships with key industry leaders and interface with them as peers. In a highly competitive market, you will deepen SSGA client relationships in the Insurance segment and assist in identifying opportunities for other parts of State Street within your client base. The position is preferred to be based in Boston, MA, or Stamford, CT.

As the Head of Insurance:
  • You will help to shape SSGA's strategy by thinking holistically about the industry ecosystem, focusing on client needs, the competitive landscape, and regulatory trends.
  • You will bring industry credibility with senior leadership of tier-one firms and other centers of influence.
  • You will understand client firm strategies while effectively communicating the SSGA strategy.
  • You will foster strong relationships with senior and executive management for the largest, most complex client organizations in your segment.
  • You will utilize market expertise to position SSGA products and services successfully. You will represent SSGA well as a senior member of the team in the industry.
  • You will build a vision/business plan and execute on an Insurance distribution strategy. You will create and implement a strategic sales plan to increase assets under management and use of SSGA products.
  • You will ensure your direct reports understand and carry out the strategy and that the Salesforce CRM is used as a tool to effectively communicate your team's progress.
  • You will lead the team of Insurance Salespeople to design bespoke goals and strategies for each firm, segment (i.e. Life and Health), and individual relationship manager, including targeting product sales in areas where the business is focusing and client needs.
  • You will identify and drive major growth opportunities for the field sales team such as states with new opportunities due to regulatory changes or product gaps that SSGA can fill.
  • You will improve the service model for sales activity based on deep expertise of the market, competitive and regulatory considerations.
  • You will partner effectively across the organization. You will listen, influence, and collaborate with key partners. You will navigate complex organizational situations to build a common understanding and align on the path to improve the end-to-end client experience and outcomes. You will build strong, collaborative relationships with peers within other SSGA teams.
  • You will lead and develop diverse talent. You will bring a track record of identifying, attracting, developing, and retaining diverse talent across the broader organization. You will help build and represent SSGA's culture.
  • You will monitor and communicate progress towards sales targets. You will drive the team to achieve sales and retention goals through targeted activities.
  • You will deliver risk excellence and comply with the sales supervision culture that demonstrates and promotes the highest ethical standards.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Series 24, 7, and 63 licensed
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the investment management industry including 10 years in senior level roles in insurance asset management and/or the insurance industry ecosystem.
  • Sophisticated understanding of insurance company needs across balance sheet and annuity platforms with a demonstrated track record of success in both segments.
  • Experience in ETF sales, products, and ecosystem
  • Executive leadership skills – a collaborator and influencer who inspires trust in others and influences across an organization; a leader who can make others around them successful
  • Strategic and forward-looking mindset. Ability to identify key industry trends and advise how SSGA can enhance its footprint in the insurance asset management space.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully navigating complex organizations, both internally and externally with clients, and marshalling resources to complete strategic business initiatives
  • Strong enterprise selling skills. Ability to align key client initiatives with SSGA's value proposition.
  • Data-driven – understands how to use data and analytics to optimize distribution strategy and client experience.
  • Extraordinary verbal and written communication and sales presentation skills.
  • Track record of driving results and closing complex deals.
  • Demonstrates integrity, high energy, and motivation to succeed.
  • Investment industry designations such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) a plus but not required.
