Statewide Mail Reviewer (Hourly/CMDC): Operations & Logistics Unit/ Special Operations #W0107 Job no: 5029264 Work type: Wage (Hourly) Location: Powhatan, Virginia Categories: Administrative Services, Public Safety Title: Statewide Mail Reviewer (Hourly/CMDC): Operations & Logistics Unit/ Special Operations #W0107 State Role Title: Admin and Office Spec III - 19013 Hiring Range: $17.50 - $24.63 Hourly Pay Band: 3 Agency: Dept of Corr - Central Admin Location: State Farm Correctional Center Agency Website: www.vadoc.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties The Centralized Mail Distribution Center (CMDC) enhances the safety of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Department of Corrections staff and inmates by meeting re-entry objectives and by contributing to the effective security, programming, custody and control of adult inmates assigned to each of the correctional facilities throughout the state. This position assists in processing all legal mail, books, magazines, newspapers, and religious material received for inmates housed at Virginia Department of Corrections facilities statewide, inspecting these items for contraband. Receives and distributes these items daily in compliance with applicable federal, state, and departmental regulations and procedures. Develops, updates, and maintains all related documentation and reports. Assists other Centralized Mail Distribution Center staff with mail processing procedures used to identify suspicious items that need to be thoroughly analyzed using the various x-ray, scanning, and drug detection equipment while maintaining required documentation. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 - April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver's License. Working knowledge of basic office practices and procedures. Demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel. Previous work experience keeping records and documentation. Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply written policies and procedures. Ability to organize and complete work assignments with minimal guidance from others. Ability to interpret, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Must be able to lift bags and bulk packages weighing up to 50 pounds and be able to place and retrieve documents/packages from shelves approximately six feet high. Must be able to push a wheeled carrier with mailbags and packages not exceeding 50 pounds. Must also be able to stand, walk and sit for extended times/distances. Additional Considerations Some knowledge of Department of Corrections policies and procedures. Skill in working with postal equipment and/or mail sorting systems.
