Join the Iowa Workforce Development team as a Statistical Research Analyst 1 in our Labor Market Information Division, located at 1000 E Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact by serving as a Statistical Research Analyst 1 to Iowa Workforce Development, Labor Market Information (LMI) on matters affecting the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI). You will learn the BLS Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI), with supervisor of the regional BLS office, to transition into the primary contact for Iowa for the program.

Key Responsibilities:

* Learn to gather and analyze information regarding iowa occupational fatalities.

* Become familiar with contacting the statewide and local entities regarding fatalities to get proper information to determine cause of death, date of death, what caused the event, and determine the deceased person's occupation.

* Receive training and learn from the regional BLS office on how to evaluate occupational fatalities.

* Extensive research, data entry, data summarization, and ability to meet hard deadlines.

* Transition into primary contact and Iowa's expert on the CFOI program.

* Clarify reporting procedures for the BLS Census of Fatal Injuries.

* Prepare employer mailings for the Laborshed program, under general supervision of senior members of the Laborshed team. This includes:

* Acquiring and cleaning mailing lists.

* Creating mail merges for printing letters.

* Organizing mailing and communication timing.

* Sending press release templates to local developers to publicize the mailing.

* Enter ZIP Code data received from employers for various Laborshed studies.

* Tabulate response rates

* Communicate with local economic developers to encourage employer participation.

* Create CSV/Excel files with raw ZIP Code data by city, after Laborshed employer mailing has concluded.

* Learn to prep slides and related files for report-writing, using Laborshed reports and data.

* Other administrative support for LMI Division as assigned.

* Attend all required meetings and conferences (both in-state, out-of-state, and virtual) as required.

Essential Functions:

* Collect, code, compile, and evaluate information.

* Enter data into web-based software system and perform clerical functions.

* PC knowledge, basic Excel skills, effective communication skills, i.e., phone calls, emails.

* Organizational skills.

* Obtain and maintain BLS agent status.

* Basic analysis skills.

* Writing and relaying information.

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. This is an in-office position. You will report at 1000 E Grand Ave., Des Moines IA. Hybrid telework and alternate work schedule opportunity available after completion of an initial 6-month probationary period of in-office employment.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

* Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, political science, or public administration.

* Four years of full-time work experience in technical statistical analysis or economic research.

* A total of four years of education (as described in number one) and/or full-time experience (as described in number two), where 30 semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.

* Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of fulltime work as a Statistical Assistant.
