Salary: $48.57 Hourly Location : Madison, WI Job Type: Full time (1.0FTE) Job Number: 2024-00447 Department: Airport Opening Date: 10/11/2024 Closing Date: 10/28/2024 11:59 PM Central FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: TRADES Description The Dane County Regional Airport has a current vacancy for a full time (1.0 FTE) Steamfitter. Normal Schedule: 1:30 pm to 12:00 am, rotating, including weekends and holidays. Undesirable Hours Premium Pay: Employees assigned to this classification at the Airport also receive undesirable hours pay of $3.00 for any time worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., and for any time on Saturday and/or Sunday. The eligible list created from this posting will be used for future Steamfitter vacancies within the next six (6) months. DEFINITION Under direction, to be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of major building heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; to perform skilled preventive maintenance and repair work on a variety of building maintenance systems; and to do related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Lays out, assembles, installs and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems, applying knowledge of system operation, and following blueprints; selects type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications; inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness; plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers; cuts, threads and bends pipe; assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic; connects pipes, using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools; secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand and power tools; installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment, such as pumps and cylinders, using hand tools; installs and maintains heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including boilers, compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping using hand and power tools, follows specifications and blueprints; increases pressure in pipe system and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks; may weld pipe supports to structure steel members; make adjustments to trouble shooting building automation system; operates, maintains, and programs building automation systems. Education, Experience & Special Requirements Must have equivalent of high school graduation. Must have completed an apprenticeship program approved by the Department of Workforce Development as a steamfitter or have formal recognition of journeyman status by the appropriate international or local trade union. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience in large commercial building maintenance. Physical Demands: This position is active for the entire shift (standing, walking, stooping, twisting, lifting, bending, pushing, reaching, climbing, crouching and crawling). Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance. May be required to operate heavy equipment, move furniture, and work from safety ladders and scaffolds. Must have the ability to use hands/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulations, pushing and pulling and operating controls and equipment. Special Requirements: Facilities Management Positions: must possess (or be eligible for) a valid Driver's license. Must successfully pass a Sheriff's Office background investigation which includes fingerprinting. Normal work schedule may require availability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays and availability to respond to afterhours building emergencies. Dane County Regional Airport Positions (Licenses and Special Requirements): Must possess or be eligible for a valid driver's license. Commercial driver's license, Class A with N (tanker) endorsement required within six (6) months of appointment. Random drug and alcohol testing required. Candidates who reach the final selection stage will be subject to an FBI criminal history records check, TSA security assessment, employment history verification, and a driving record background check. Normal rotating schedule of 1:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., including holidays and weekends. Requires ability to operate heavy snow removal equipment, including trucks, snowplows, snowblowers, brooms and loaders. Requires ability to communicate by two-way radio. Must be available for snow and ice removal and other emergencies. Everyone who has a commercial driver's license ( CDL ) must be registered in the US Department of Transportation's Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Registration is available at Applicants must pass drug/alcohol testing after a conditional offer of employment has been made. Alliant Energy Center Positions. Normal scheduled hours are from 7 am to 3:30 pm, Monday thru Friday. Position will also require evening, weekend and holiday hours (including overtime) as necessary to support scheduled events, meetings and conferences. Will be on call for emergencies. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, heating equipment and related steam and condensate return lines; knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of complex air conditioning equipment; knowledge of the principles, practices, tools and methods used in plumbing, heating and mechanical work; knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures related to mechanical, plumbing, heating and electrical systems including water treatment and chemical feed systems; knowledge of applicable code requirements; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; ability to maintain and repair a variety of mechanical and electrical systems including plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration; ability to diagnose malfunctions and implement necessary repairs; ability to follow oral and written instructions including plans and specifications; ability to work cooperatively with and direct the work of others; ability to perform moderately heavy labor; ability to drive motorized vehicles; ability to use computer with windows application, email, Explorer, etc. (possess basic computer skills), and practical knowledge of building automation systems such as Johnson Controls Metasys.
