Description Position Purpose:The Robotics Mentor will work with high school students in the STEP Program to prepare them for the Robotics Competition scheduled for May 2025. This role involves assisting the students in understanding robotics concepts, supporting class sessions, and providing additional tutoring hours. Mentors will also work closely with the instructor to ensure students are well-prepared and confident going into the competition.Major Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
  • Class Participation: Attend assigned robotics classes on campus or via Zoom, staying up to date with topics and assignments.
  • Tutoring and Mentoring: Provide individual and group tutoring sessions to support students' learning and enhance their understanding of robotics concepts. Sessions may take place both during and outside of regular class time.
  • In-Class Assistance: Assist students during class under the instructor's guidance, helping them engage in lectures, complete assignments, and troubleshoot projects.
  • Logistics and Support: Support the instructor in any necessary administrative or operational duties, including welcoming students, helping with login issues, and assisting with equipment setup.
  • Progress Tracking: Maintain a weekly log of student attendance, tutoring sessions, and overall progress to help track each student's development in the program.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Current Vaughn Student and a completion of at least 30 college credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and Excel; experience with robotics concepts and programming is a plus.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to effectively communicate concepts and instructions to high school students, with a passion for teaching and mentoring.
  • Problem Solving: Able to define challenges, analyze data, and develop solutions with attention to detail.
  • Adaptability: Flexible in assisting students across various platforms (in-person and Zoom) and able to follow guidance from the lead instructor.
