Most importantly, our employees are part of a team that makes a real difference in the communities we live and work in.Job Summary:Location: Methodist HospitalAddress: 8303 Dodge St, Omaha, NEWork Schedule: RotatingThe Sterile Processing Educator will provide sterile processing training to surgical technicians by developing and facilitating training, identifying performance improvement opportunities, and providing feedback to staff to ensure established departmental policies and procedures are followed accurately and consistently.Responsibilities:Essential Functions1. Develops and delivers sterile processing training courses to sterile processing technicians by utilizing adult learning principles and by following policies and procedures to ensure complete understanding of the information being presented.2. Provides training on decontamination by Sorting, disassembling, cleaning, and disinfecting contaminated instruments and equipment to render items safe for handling, by using special techniques and procedures of Universal Barrier Precautions.3. Provides training on assembly and preparation by preparing instrument sets/trays and other reusable patient equipment by following recipe sheets to ensure the completeness and accuracy of each item.4. Provides training on packaging and linen by performing sterile linen processing according to established guidelines to ensure availability of sterile linen. Packages each set/tray/item as directed on each recipe sheet and per the department's policy.5. Provides training on sterilization and biologicals by loading sterilization cart/chamber according to method of sterilization and set policies and procedures and unloading sterilization carts to ensure smooth and timely processing and delivery of sterile instruments and supplies by carefully and properly handling items on the cart as outlined in department procedure manual.6. Provides training on record keeping and tracking by maintaining accurate records of sterilization and of all equipment in the department by utilizing the instrument tracking system by following departmental policies and procedures to comply with federal and other external regulations.7. Provides training on distribution by distributing instruments sets to ensure receipt by departments in a timely manner.8. Evaluates training courses by use of evaluations and feedback to ensure proper understanding by participants and changes and/or modifications to training materials is completed.Schedule:RotatingJob Description:Job RequirementsEducation
  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) preferred.
  • Bachelors in a healthcare related field preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years Sterile Processing or related experience required.
License/Certifications
  • Current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through CBSPD Certification Program) required within one year of hire.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of decontamination of surgical instruments required.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles preferred.
  • Skilled in excellent written/oral communication to convey programs, messages, or training to individuals/groups with professionalism, persuasion, and accuracy required.
  • Skilled in appropriate surgical instrument sterilization methods required.
  • Skilled in proper handling and packaging of instruments required.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and customers required.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend various written reports and documents required.
