POSITION SUMMARY: Provides support to the operating room through the timely, accurate, and safe processing of instrumentation and equipment used in the direct care of the surgical patient. Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Tech - Central Sterile, organizes, inventories, and distributes instruments, supplies, equipment, and implants. Does not assume an independent assignment. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives in collaboration with other health team members. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.
Essential Requirements/ Job Specific Standards
* Performs reprocessing cycle of instrument management: including decontamination, assembly, preparation and packaging for sterilization, sterilization, and storage.
* Inspects and corrects assembly of surgical instruments including correct selection of packaging, integrators and Biological Indicators (BI).
* Sterilizes and disinfects high-level instruments including correct selection of sterilization or high-level disinfection method.
* Cares for instruments after sterilization/high level disinfection including interpretation of results and storage of instruments.
* Keeps accurate records including Censis entries and paper records.
* Performs quality assurance checks in the department including sterilizers, washers, ultrasonics and high-level disinfectant equipment.
* Obtains and meets productivity measurements.
* Learns and understands instrument and equipment IFU's and keeping current with changes and new instruments.
* Operates complex machinery such as ultrasonic cleaners, washer/disinfectors, steam sterilizers, low temperature sterilizers and biological incubators.
* Utilizes various IT systems such as oneSource and Censis.
* Demonstrates adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) attire, and use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) information regarding chemicals, and regulatory agency
requirements.
* Performs other duties as assigned/required.

Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Note: This is a 12-month time limited positon. SPD intern will be trained and educated on the job to care for and reprocess reusable medical equipment and surgical instrumentation. The intern will successfully pass all hospital competencies for department. Certification as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through International Association of Healthcare Central Sterile Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)) is required by the end of 12 months.
Experience:
None necessary, completion of formal training in field preferred.
Technical Skills:
Due to the highly technical nature, especially related to interpretation of manufacturer's Instructions For Use (IFU), ALL SPD staff must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Computer skills:
Various applications related to Instrument management (Censis, OneSource)
