Oversees and participates in the decontamination, inspection, cleaning, assembling, and packaging of surgical linens, instruments, trays, basin sets, and prepares items for sterilization. Instructs and educates others on proper cleaning, assembly and sterilization methods and principles as related to surgical instrumentation. Acts as a resource person to the operating room staff. Other duties may be assigned as needed.Responsibilities:Demonstrates responsibility in the setting of priorities:Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment, and assembles wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper standard precautions.Orders supplies necessary for instrument processing roomWorks closely with CSR for completion of gas sterilized instruments and packsCleans instrument room on a rotational basisCleans sterilizers per recommendationsReviews outdates in sterile instrument roomMaintains a clean environment in the washer/decontamination room and sterile packaging roomFollows appropriate policy and procedure for the position:Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.Follows all safety and infection control policies/procedures related to the departmentFollows procedures to correctly utilize the washer/decontamination unitKnowledge of sterilization methods, monitoring techniquesMaintains records/logs for autoclaves, sterile processingSorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays and medical equipment and makes them available to the sterile processing customer in a timely manner.Requirements:Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent10 hours CE annually related to the functions of a central service technicianCPR/BLS by AHA within 90 days of hire.Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field2 years' experience in sterile processing preferred.Background clearances (as required by law).Benefits:Medical, Dental and Vision401KVacation time and Sick timeAbout Steward Health CareNearly a decade ago, Steward Health Care System emerged as a different kind of health care company designed to usher in a new era of wellness.
