Job Description:Responsible for decontamination, cleaning, processing and sterilization of supplies and equipment dispensed by the department following established infection control practices. Must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of working under pressure and interacting professionally with other departments within the hospital. Able to accept new ideas and learn position duties. Reports to the Central Sterile Processing Assistant Manager.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDemonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:Professional Requirements:Insures proper operation of autoclave & sterrad units prior to use on a daily basis.Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift Records results in appro plate log.Inspects stoned and steam autoclaves for visible signs of malfunction and reports to Central Sterile Supply Assistant Manager.Processes or oversees, all contaminated instruments and supplies returned to Central Sterile.Uses knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization.Processes all items appropriately using either sterrad or steam sterilization.Maintains appropriate documentation of implants.Works closely with Central Supply Director and assists with orientation for new personnel.Maintains appropriate spore testing on routine basis and documents results as required.Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Performs general cleaning of department surface areas and racks.Stores all supplies and equipment; stocks Central Sterile dispensing racks.Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation and special procedure items.Performs tray assemblage, proper packaging and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization. Monitors sterility of instruments and supplies.Properly loads and operates all sterilizers, steam and sterrad, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control test as required by department.Receives and delivers instruments to dumbwaiter as requested.Assist with monitoring and maintaining linen packs in storeroom.Performs linen assemblage and preparation for sterilization.Performs other related duties as may be assigned.Adheres to AAMI standards.Assists in maintaining an efficient work environment.Education/Regulatory Requirements:Graduate of high school or equivalent.Six months of Sterile Processing experience preferred.Current CRCST and/or CSPDT certification preferred or must obtain either certification within two years of employment.Language Skills:Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.Skills:Knowledge of medical terminology and instruments used by the department.Knowledgeable with cleaning and sterilization procedures and techniques.Moderate to advanced computer and data entry skills.Specific Age Groups Served:Not applicable.Exposure Classifications:Classification I: Jobs in which required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues, or potential spills or splashes.
