- Job Summary
- The Sterile Processing Technician II is responsible for following and maintaining AAMI, AORN, CDC, and FDA recommended practices and standards for decontamination, assembly, inspecting, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments for Surgical Services and the Health System. Proven work record and commitment towards continuing education. Assist with orientation new personnel to Sterile Processing. Assist with planning and providing approved education to the Sterile Processing department. Must have effective oral and written communication skills with co-workers, internal, and external customers.
- Must know how to operate Sterile Processing departmental equipment (i.e. washers, ultrasonic, steam, plasma, and chemical sterilizer). Must know physical and parametric sterilization monitoring, record keeping, and quality assurance protocols.
- Education
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience
- Two years experience in Sterile Processing Assembly, Decontamination, and Materials Management in a Hospital setting required or three years of experience in related field including Operating Room Technician experience in sterile processing area, surgical suite or comparable setting, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
- Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries
- Must hold current CS/SPD Certification with the Certification Board for either Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM). Must maintain Annual National Sterile Processing Certification.
