Sterile processing has five major areas: Decontamination, processing (inspection, assembly and packaging), Sterilizing, Sterile Storage, and distribution.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:1. High school graduate or GED equivalent.2. Completion of Sterile Processing Certification within 18 months of hire.CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Provide exceptional patient care by providing prompt, accurate service2. Provide supplies of sterile linen packs, basins, instrument trays, and other sterile items3. Maintain accurate records of cleaning, disinfection, and the sterilization processes4. Strive for consistency in the trays that the department provides5. Monitor and enforce controls necessary to prevent cross-contamination according to infection control policies6. Establish and maintain sterile processing standards7. Implement changes as needed to stay current with new regulations and recommended practices8. Review current practices for possible improvements in quality of services provided9. Provide services to other departments in all areas of sterile processingPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must meet Department of Labor's MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.3.
