Summary:

This position performs tasks of varying complexity. These include: decontamination of soiled instrumentation and equipment, stocking of shelves, issuing patient care supplies and equipment, preparing supplies for surgical cases, performing routine departmental preventative maintenance, maintaining departmental charge and tracking information and performing miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

(20%)* Assesses equipment and instrument needs as they relate to each department of the hospital.

(20%)* Plans activities based upon specific procedures being performed.

(20%)* Implements activities to efficiently maintain and distribute equipment and instruments.

(20%)* Evaluates the cleanliness and safety of the unit as well as the number and the amount of supplies required to maintain adequate levels within the department.

(20%) *Self Management: Demonstrates effective communication skills and interpersonal relationships. Assumes responsibility for own continued development and assists with the development of other staff members.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates equipment as outlined on orientation checklists, policy and procedures.

Participates in equipment in-services and competencies as they relate to role expectations.

Performs age specific role expectations as outlined on orientation checklists and competencies.

Participates in Performance Improvement as required by the Health System and the job description.

Understands and is accountable for the Health Systems customer service standards.

Performs job skills outlined on orientation checklist as they relate to role expectations.

Certifications and Licensures:

Credential:SPD CERT: Cert Sterile Process TechEquivalent Experience: If there are no candidates with the desired certification or the above listed qualifications, the ability to hire a candidate contingent upon completing the Central Service Technician coursework within one year from date of hire and the completion of the Central Service Technician certification within two years from date of hire can be exercised.

Required Education:

Education: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

Other Information:

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Successful completion of a central service technician course, or documented experience of on-the-job training in central service, or completion of an OR tech program, or documented experience as an OR tech or scrub nurse strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
