JOB SUMMARY: The Sterilization Technician (ST) works with Dentists and Dental Assistants to ensure instruments used for procedures are clean, sterilized, and prepare for the procedure. The ST must be able to take direction and follow through on all assignments. The goal is optimizing flow, so patients are provided high quality care. The ST will also be responsible for the Dental Lab area and workflow.KNOWLEDGE OF WORKKnowledge of guidelines for proper cleaning and sterilization of instrumentsKnowledge of dental instruments, materials and equipmentKnowledge of Federally Qualified Health CentersDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDecontaminates dental instruments, materials and equipmentCollects, prepares and organizes dental trays, instruments and equipment's for schedule dental visitsSterilizes dental instruments and materials using the ultrasonic and autoclaveMaintains order and cleanliness in the dental lab and sterilization areaPerforms and documents light equipment maintenance and repairReports on equipment and instrument failures and/or misplacementDoes inventory of sterile dental supplies and instruments to determine re-ordering needsMaintains OSHA compliance and with OLE Health and Dental department policyDisposes of sharps as mandated by OSHAPerforms, documents and reports on weekly spore testing of autoclavesActively participates in internal quality improvement and works within the Dental team to suggest, implement and measure such projectsDemonstrates cooperative behavior with supervisors, colleagues and patientsClean and disinfect operatory and sterilize instruments in accordance with department policy and OSHA guidelinesPerforms other duties as assignedEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.Sterilization technician experience preferred.Must certify and remain current in CPR.Strong computer skills required; experience with EPIC preferred.Strong verbal and written communication required; Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.Strong organizational and technical skills required.Must have high attention to detail and ability to multi-task.Must work well independently and as a part of a team.
