STERILIZATION TECHNICIAN & PATIENT SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE

Western NC Community Health Services (WNCCHS) is a Federally Qualified Health Center serving the greater Asheville/Buncombe County area. We are seeking a people-oriented full-time Sterilization Technician and Patient Services Representative.

The Sterilization Technician/Patient Service Representative (PSR) helps the dental team by improving patient services, efficiency, and productivity by successfully managing sterilization protocols and front desk duties. The Sterilization Technician may also from time to time assist dental hygienists in completing periodontal charting by entering numerical values in a patient's chart. 70% of time will be dedicated to the sterilization tech duties and 30% of time will be dedicated to the PSR duties daily.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes but not limited to the following:

* Strictly adhere to infection control standards, staying current with changes as they occur.

* Process dental instruments and patient care items through the sterilization process safely and efficiently.

* Maintain sterilization equipment, following manufacture maintenance guidelines and intervals.

* Turn over operatories, transporting dirty instruments to the sterilization area for processing. Set up treatment rooms for the next patient procedure.

* Assist with ordering of clinical supplies, by noting any items in the sterilization room that need reordering.

* Provide customer service support to patients by escorting them to and from the treatment room as needed.

* Assist the hygienist with new patient charting and routine periodontal charting.

* Help dental assistants, doctors, and front desk staff, when necessary.

* Register new patients/patients by obtaining all necessary information and entering the information into the computer system accurately.

* Schedules patient appointments and maintains smooth patient flow through the dental office.

* Reschedule or cancel patient appointments as needed.

* Collect service fees and/or co-payments.

* Continuously update the patient database, paying special attention to Unique Patient Identifiers (UPI), third-party payer data, addresses, and telephone numbers.

* Make legible and complete (front and back) photocopies of third-party payer identification documents (e.g., Medicare cards)

* Scan documents into patient database.

* Use internal and external databases to verify the patient's third-party payer coverage for specific dates of service.

* Obtain required signatures from patients or their legal guardians.

* Ensure patients or their legal guardians receive required documents (e.g., Notice of Privacy Practices)

* Greet visitors and notify appropriate personnel of their presence.

* Answer questions and provide accurate information to patients and visitors.

* As assigned, answer the agency's telephone lines and route telephone calls to appropriate personnel.

* Receive hand-delivered mail/packages and route them appropriately.

* As assigned, make patient reminder calls.

* As needed, fax/mail documents.

* Trouble-shoot office equipment problems and request technical assistance as needed.

* Participate in quality management activities.

* Occasionally, the supervisor may assign other appropriate duties and responsibilities.

* Verify patients' insurance for each visit and places note in chart of effective date and active date of service for each schedule appointment.

* Place/Check reminder calls daily for patient appointments and update patient records and patient schedules when necessary.

* Reconcile daily activity (computer system reports with cash drawer) and prepare daily deposit.

* Turn on equipment in the morning and off at night.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Highschool diploma or equivalent.

* Previous experience in sterilization and/or dental front desk is a plus, but will train.

* Ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks in a timely and independent manner

* Skilled in use of standard office equipment and computer software (Excel, Word, Practice Management software).

Hourly range $17.70 to 19.50
