This job is primarily responsible is to operate the winch to shift the barge during loading and unloading operations. The responsibilities also include maintenance of rolling stock (excavators, pay loaders, dozers, front-end loaders, forklift, etc.). In this job, you will: All job duties may or may not be performed by all job incumbents, may vary dependent on assigned department.
  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attends daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable); including wearing appropriate PPE for task being performed.
  • Inspect and service, or report defects, all points on deck winches, multiple types of rolling stock, condition of slings, straps and shackles.
  • Assist mechanic with repairs of equipment on deck.
  • Grease snatch blocks, check oil levels, break wear etc.
  • Wash the derrick barge including all surfaces, the deck, equipment and machinery.
  • Paint the boom, the railings, deck structures, and other equipment.
  • Perform clamshell bucket lockout and PM servicing.
  • Perform various maintenance duties; including moving office furniture, supplies, equipment and machine, cutting grass and weed eating the grounds.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with all safety procedures, rules and regulations; including proper handling of separate waste streams.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Basic knowledge of computers and applicable software.
  • Basic knowledge or ability to quickly learn the operation and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Basic knowledge or ability to quickly learn the occupational hazards of the work and of necessary safety precautions for the safe operation of assigned equipment.
  • Basic knowledge or ability to quickly learn and understand the proper methods for lifting machine/loads per equipment utilized in job duties performed.
  • Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to complete documentation requirements.
  • Able to follow direction and to use logical thought process to interpret oral and written instructions and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned task.
  • Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Strong ability to multi-task with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction from management, trainers, and other departments as needed to ensure efficient operation and regulatory compliance.
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work sites; work site location will depend on business needs and will typically be in the following parish(es): Ascension Parish, Jefferson Parish, Plaquemines Parish, Orleans Parish, St. Charles Parish, St. James Parish, St. John the Baptist Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish.
Here's additional information you need to know: Physical Demands & Requirements Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs. - 100 occasionally. Ability to sit continuously on an air-cushioned seat. Ability to stand and walk constantly/continuously on various surfaces. Ability to lift from ground level to overhead or at waist level, depending on activity. Reaches forward constantly/continuously and handle levers, hand tools and other equipment as necessary. Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, bend and kneel, occasionally. Ability to perform work in confined spaces and significant heights. Ability to understand and communicate verbally and/or by signaling, in person and over two-way radio. Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions. Able to perform work in confined spaces. Ability to work around/on deep water; where applicable. Ability to work in an environment with high dust levels around. Ability to meet requirements of PFT and fit testing, when applicable. Ability to meet requirement of and utilize all applicable PPE (e.g. hardhat, steel-toed boots, life vest), when applicable. Ability to work extended hours, weekend, holidays and/or alternate shifts as needed. Uses near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, accommodation (adjusting focus between varied distances quickly), color discrimination and field of vision for task Environmental Conditions The work environment described here are meant to be representative of those an employee would normally encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment. Travel, 5%-20% travel may be required at some facilities. This may include off-site training and/or work at alternate locations.
