The Stitcher works under the supervision of the Costume Shop Manager and Production Manager of the Aspen Opera Theater & VocalARTS (AOTVA) at the Aspen Music Festival & School (AMFS). The AOTVA program is under the co-artistic direction of Rene Fleming and Patrick Summers. The upcoming season will utilize the AMFS orchestras, the 2,050 seat Klein Music Tent, and Historic Wheeler Opera House throughout an encompassing 8-week summer season. This season's mainstage productions will be Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte and Puccini's La Boheme . Responsibilities
- Assist in the building and fitting of costumes for an eight-week season consisting of two opera productions and weekly public opera scenes classes.
- Work backstage during the run of each opera serving as dresser on wardrobe crew.
- Position to include hair and makeup duties as needed.
- Execute the stitching of mock-ups and finished costumes under the supervision of the Costume Shop Manager adhering to notes given by the designer and/or director.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a BA/BFA in Technical Theater with an emphasis in costume design or equivalent professional experience.
- Previous sewing experience in a theatrical setting, required.
- Ideal candidates will also have experience working with theatrical wigs/hair and makeup.
- Experience with draping and patterning preferred.
- Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, designers, guest artists, faculty, and student performers and a proven ability to work well with others.
- Candidates must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and materials or, of greater weights in tandem with additional crew member assistance and be comfortable and confident climbing stairs and ladders.
- A valid driver's license is preferred.
