SUMMARYUnder general supervision operates, maintains and repairs playa lake pumps, motors and control equipment. Administers the onsite confined space entry process associated with the inspection, cleaning, and general maintenance of the City's storm water drainage system. Regularly supervises 1-5 personnel and may occasionally be required to perform manual unskilled labor.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Performs routine maintenance on Stormwater pumps, motors and controls equipment to include portable pump and trailer.
- Perform minor electrical tests and maintenance on pump motor panels: troubleshooting.
- Maintain all pump sites and playa lake pertinences.
- Performs confined space entry associated with the general inspection, cleaning, and repair of storm sewer pipe, manholes, inlets, etc.
- Administers the safe entering of confined spaces by other departmental employees.
- Responsible for the general maintenance and proper use of all confined space monitoring equipment, and all confined space entry/retrieval safety equipment.
- Responsible for the operation, organization, and maintenance of truck and trailer used to transport and store all confined space monitoring and entry/retrieval equipment.
- Prepares all permits, reports, and documentation for each confined space entry.
- Assists with training employees on confined space safety procedures and equipment.
Other Responsibilities:
- Maintains safe working environment through the application of standard barricading and traffic safety procedures.
- Proper completion of daily job reports, and other reports as needed.
- Maintains an inventory of all tools.
- Operates other equipment or trucks as needed during emergencies, trains on unfamiliar equipment or operates within comparable pay range when necessary.
- Orders supplies from warehouse or outside suppliers as necessary.
- Maintains safe working environment through compliance with occupational safety rules and practices.
- Performs manual work when needed to assist in the performance of various tasks.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Graduation from high school or GED required. Three (3) years experience in utility/storm drainage construction, or maintenance, or similar type work preferred. Experience with confined space safety regulations, procedures, and safety equipment desirable. Experience with pumps and motors, specifically hollow shaft line pumps. Completion of 16 hours training in traffic and barricading procedures during probationary year. Completion of 16 hours training in confined space entry and recovery safety procedures during probationary year. Valid Texas Driver's License required. Must be able to obtain a Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License when scheduled to attend CDL training course during probationary year. Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Must possess good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
Knowledge of storm sewer pipe cleaning/maintenance/repair methods and equipment.
- Must have working knowledge of light and medium equipment and trucks, i.e., 12-yard dump truck.
- Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
- Ability to operate medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial vehicles.
- Must have working knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications.
- Knowledge of all confined space entry safety regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of all monitoring and safety equipment used in confined space entry.
- Knowledge of pumps and pump motors.
- Should be familiar with hand tools, both power and manual.
- This position is subject to 24-hour emergency call out and may be required to carry an after-hours cellular phone on rotational shift arrangement.
