Take a peek at what our beautiful County has to offer -STORMWATER INSPECTOR:Perform technical work inspecting public and private construction sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal stormwater anti-pollution laws and permits. Perform various other services to prevent the pollution of public waterbodies. The position will be directly supervised by the Senior Stormwater Inspector.Essential Job Duties
- Inspect Commercial and Residential construction sites for compliance for NPDES requirements set forth by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
- Generate inspection reports for the Developers and Contractors.
- Review FDEP permits and dewatering plans.
- Prepare Stormwater requirements and construction standards for pre-construction meetings.
- Take water samples and interpret lab data with conformance for FDEP standards.
- Coordinate with Indian River Farms Water Control District, State Department of Health, St. Johns River Water Management District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and other State and Federal agencies to investigate and resolve various pollution issues.
Typical RequirementsEducation and Experience:High School Graduate with a minimum of two years of Stormwater and/or NPDES construction inspection experience. Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
- Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
- Certification as a State of Florida Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector or the ability to become so certified within three months of employment.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:Knowledge of Best Management Practices for construction site stormwater runoff and erosion control. Ability to read and understand construction drawings. Possess a working knowledge of common construction methods. Ability to perform daily and regular inspections of public and private construction sites within Indian River County jurisdiction to determine if the sites comply with local, state, and federal stormwater permits and anti-pollution laws and ordinances. Ability to determine if the sites comply with approved construction documents and specifications. Ability to investigate, document, write, and issue construction site violations to offending permit holders or their agents. Ability to provide useful input regarding stormwater erosion and control issues at preconstruction meetings. Ability to take and analyze water quality samples using County equipment to determine the presence of pollutants in waterbodies. Ability to prepare and maintain organized records of all activities for inclusion in the County's annual NPDES NOI Permit report. Ability to communicate effectively and logically, both orally and in writing. Ability to politely interact with the general public and contracting personnel. Ability to use a personal computer and operate programs such as Microsoft Word.
