Position Information

New Hanover County is looking for aStormwater Maintenance Workertojoin the Stormwater Services Division of the Engineering Department. This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining stormwater drainage systems through semi-skilled manual labor and use of various hand tools and power equipment. Other duties include: performing preventative maintenance on tools and equipment; transporting and operating heavy equipment,such as backhoes and excavators; Driving county vehicles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs); Using hand tools such as chainsaws, winches, shovels, and other hand and power tools; Performing landscape and waterwayclearancework such as: removing debris, cutting felled trees for removal, removing excess mud and/or sand from waterways, and cutting branches, among other clearance work; Reporting to blocked waterways both reported by residents as well as identified by theEngineeringDepartment; Occasionally using jon boats to cross deep waterways and/or working in standing water up to chest level; And performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

We review over 200 plans and plats, address over 300 drainage matters and design engineered solutions to address the needs within the unincorporated county. Hours:

6:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday - Thursday. Must be available to work during emergency situations. (Description of work hours does not apply in emergency situations)

Salary Information:

Thehiring rangefor this position starts at$36,325.Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations. Candidates with a valid North Carolina Class A CDL license may be eligible for a 3% increase insalary.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

* High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of work experience performing landscape and/or waterwayclearanceor related work.

* Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, handling, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, and walking.

What will make your application stand out:

* Possession of a North Carolina CDL, Class A Driver's license.

* Experience working around and interacting with community residents.

* Valid Driver's License and good driving record required at time of application.
