This role supports the university's long-term financial goals through data-driven decision-making, supplier management, and procurement process improvement. The Strategic Sourcing Lead will work closely with the Strategic Sourcing Specialist, internal departments, external vendors, and the Senior Procurement Manager to enhance procurement efficiency and effectiveness.Essential Job Duties
- Analyze purchasing patterns to identify new opportunities for preferred vendor contracts
- Review historical purchasing data to identify trends and patterns
- Use data analytics tools to pinpoint areas where preferred vendor contracts could lead to cost savings or improved service
- Collaborate with departments to understand their purchasing needs and preferences
- Develop strategies to consolidate purchases and negotiate better terms with vendors
- Assist in the development, evaluation, and presentation of various information, including cost benefits; gather and analyze data on current purchasing practices and costs
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations on potential cost-saving measures and benefits of preferred vendor contracts
- Work with finance and other departments to evaluate the financial impact of purchasing decisions
- Foster and manage relationships between the university and vendors/suppliers
- Act as the primary point of contact for vendors and suppliers
- Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with key vendors. and address and resolve any issues or disputes that arise with vendors. While also ensuring vendors comply with the University's policies and standards
- Conduct market research to understand current pricing trends and benchmarks
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with vendors to secure the best possible deals for the University
- Draft and review contracts to ensure they meet the University's requirements and protect its interests
- Work with legal and other departments to finalize agreements
- Conduct quarterly business reviews with vendors/suppliers
- Schedule and lead quarterly business review meetings with key vendors
- Review vendor performance against agreed-upon metrics and service level agreements
- Discuss any issues, concerns, or opportunities for improvement with vendors
- Develop action plans to address any performance gaps and enhance vendor relationships
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, supply chain management, or a related field
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management, preferably in higher education
- An advanced degree or certification in Procurement (e.g., CPSM, CPPB) is a plus
- Experience in procurement practices in higher education or a similar public sector environment is preferred
- Experience in contract management, supplier performance evaluation, and market research is preferred
