The purpose of this classification is to perform supervisory and manual work functions associated with fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic signs, street markers, and pavement markings.Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals; provides training as needed.
Organizes and prioritizes division workload; makes work assignments; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; monitors work safety factors and enforces safety regulations to ensure safety of work crews and other individuals.
Supervises the fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic signs, street markers, and pavement markings. Inspects city streets to identify necessary work.
Supervises and performs various manual work functions associated with installation and maintenance of traffic signs, street markers, and pavement markings, which may include installing reflective markers on pavement, applying thermoplastic stripes, laying out paved areas for striping, striping streets/roads/parking lots with paint, eradicating city/county street markings, installing/repairing signs/posts, replacing damaged signs/posts, cleaning signs, building barricades, setting up cones, measuring streets, digging holes, shoveling materials, cutting/trimming shrubs, etc.
Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools associated with installation and maintenance of traffic signs, street markers, and pavement markings, which may include a striping truck, thermoplastic applicator, paint machine, eradicator, torch, arrow board, post hole digger, shovel, mechanic tools, carpentry tools, etc.
Performs general and preventive maintenance as needed to keep vehicles and equipment in operable condition, such as inspecting equipment, pumping fuel, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, repairing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, etc.
Oversees inventory of parts, equipment, tools or supplies to ensure that proper resources are available to complete assigned work; initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
Assists in developing and implementing department budget; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with current budget.
Receives, reviews, prepares or completes various forms, correspondence, reports, work orders, logs, maps, plats, drawings, manuals, applications, attendance records, performance appraisals, and other documentation; processes, forwards or maintains as appropriate.
Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service and/or information from employees, officials, the public or other individuals.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, city/county departments, vendors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Conducts and/or attends meetings.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a motor vehicle in the performance of duties. Performs other related duties as required.High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by vocational/technical training in mechanics, graphics, or related field; additionally, three (3) years previous experience and/or training that includes fabrication or installation of traffic signs and road markings; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain valid Flagging Certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).Data Utilization: Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data and/or information. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, or toxic agents.
