Salary: $15.71 Hourly Location : Public Works/Engineering/Street Operations Building - Killeen, TX Job Type: Full-time Department: Public Works Division: Transportation Opening Date: 08/21/2024 Closing Date: Continuous FLSA: Non-Exempt Job DescriptionGENERAL PURPOSE To operate a street sweeper for the operation of maintaining the cleanliness of the city streets. Essential DutiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CORE COMPETENCIES: Operates various street sweepers (Regenerative Air Sweeper, Mechanical Street Sweeper, or Vacuum Operated Streets Sweeper Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies Operates a variety of contractor's equipment and trucks utilized in construction maintenance and repair activities Operates small equipment and tools to maintain streets. Composes quarterly street sweeping schedule.Tracks daily work for input into Asset Management System. Places and applies traffic control devices. Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned. Maintains records of materials and equipment necessary to complete job Operates radio for communications between self and other workers Secures and maintains vehicle and area at the end of the working day Conducts safety and maintenance checks on equipment and machinery as needed for job Performs minor repairs on sweeper as needed Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and comply with City of Killeen driving policy. Performs all On-call assignments as outlined in On-Call Schedule and Departmental Policy. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Minimum QualificationsREQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Graduation from high school or equivalent, preferred; 2. Six (6) months of experience operating heavy equipment or large commercial vehicles. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Considerable knowledge of Street Sweeper operations. 2. Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to light equipment operations. 3. Working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in street and utility maintenance work. 4. Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment. 5. Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions. 6. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 7. Ability to observe proper safety precautions. 8. Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public. 9. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions. 10. Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions 11. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Must have a valid Texas Class B CDL license by date of hire and comply with the City of Killeen driving policy. 2. Must have or acquire within thirty (30) days from date of hire all National Institute Management Systems (N.I.M.S.) certifications as required by City and position. 3. Must acquire within twelve (12) months from date of hire TYMCO Sweeper Training Course Certification 4. Must have six (6) months experience utilizing Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel) TOOLS AND Supplemental InformationTOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Various Street Sweepers, skid steer, backhoe, dump truck, common hand and power tools, shovels, and safety equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of his job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet / humid, hot, and cold conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
