Responsible for designing and executing a for-credit physical fitness class for the Leadership Experience Program cadets, advises and assists other programs fitness activities to include the Service Academy Prep Program, 1st Responder Program, Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class program and MMI's Athletic Department. Assists cadets in developing individual weight & fitness training programs. Develops curriculum content for instructional classes in weight training and provides in-service education for instructors/coaches. Essential Duties and Responsibilities In addition to adhering to general policies and guidelines specified by the ACCS Board of Trustees and the MMI Faculty/Staff Handbook, the successful candidate will also perform the following duties:
  • Work in cooperation with the cadet health clinic and/or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with the NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards Guidelines.
  • Design and implement a for credit physical fitness class.
  • Assist with the design, organization and maintenance of fitness facilities.
  • Assist other programs and athletic teams in the design of group fitness programs.
  • Assist individual cadets in the design and execution of holistic fitness and weight loss programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Physical Education, Exercise Psychology or a related field.
  • Minimum two-year's experience as a weight/strength/fitness coach at the college level, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Alabama driver's license.
  • Must be insurable by the College's insurance carrier.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Human Performance/Kinesiology/related field.
  • NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) certification as a Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS), a strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) or a tactical strength and conditioning facilitator (TSAC-F).
  • CPR and AED Certification within 6 months of hire.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Identify cadets' fitness level and health.
  • Oversee completion of exercise routines.
  • Track cadets' physical progress.
  • Modify exercise plans based on needs, potential injuries or health issues.
  • Conduct individual and group fitness training sessions.
  • Adopt a holistic training approach (e.g. cardiovascular exercise, strength).
  • Oversee the use of fitness equipment to ensure cadets exercise properly and safely.
  • Handle nutrition and health-related questions.
  • Refer to and promote fitness packages and plans.
  • Carry out First Aid and CPR if needed.
  • Follow safety and hygiene guidelines.
  • Knowledge of diverse exercises and how to adjust plans according to each cadet's needs.
  • Ability to instruct and motivate people.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Teamwork.
  • Available to work on early or late shifts.
  • Proven experience of CPR and First Aid.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, or run for extended period of time.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to travel independently.
  • Ability to lift, move or transport independently at least up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and manage complicated tasks.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to meet other physical demands to comparable professional position in the public or private sector.
