STRUCTURAL ENGINEER IN TRAINING (E.I.T.)

Burgess Construction Consultants, Inc. is looking for a staff (entry) level Structural Engineer to join our team. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering. The person in this role will work under the supervision of senior staff to perform computer-aided design, calculation checking, and other design tasks. Excellent organizational skills, exceptional focus on details, an innate drive to do what is necessary to support the engineering team, and an unceasing appetite to learn and be “coachable” are vital for this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train with Professional Engineers to perform the analysis and engineering of:
  • Single-family residences (production and custom)
  • Multi-family complexes
  • Retail/Low-rise commercial facilities
  • Ancillary structures (retaining walls, screen walls, and misc. structures)
  • Ability to utilize a variety of building materials including:
  • Dimensional lumber
  • Engineered wood products
  • Masonry
  • Concrete
  • Cold-Formed steel
  • Steel
  • Create structural design drawings, calculations, and details under the direction of Professional Engineers.
  • Review shop drawing submittals.
  • Perform site visits to various project sites.
  • Any other duties not specifically defined herein that will support the engineering team's efforts.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Structural /Architectural /Civil Engineering with Structural Emphasis from an ABET accredited university.

  • E.I.T. certification or the ability to obtain within six months.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Accountability and responsibility - self-starter with willingness to interact as a team player and take independent initiative to ensure tasks are completed.
  • Strong communication – both written and verbal
  • Must be willing to travel

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
