About the Role The primary responsibility of this role will be to manage the modeling, implementation, and process standards of structured transactions in close collaboration with the Deal Team Leader and other deal team members. You will work within the team to develop innovative reinsurance solutions designed to meet client needs while adhering to Swiss Re's risk appetite. Additional key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Preparing presentations, correspondence, and documents, both for originating new transactions and for the internal approval process
  • Driving the project management of complex transactions, including coordinating with various internal & external stakeholders and managing timetables, documentation, and adherence to internal governance/underwriting standards
  • Working with a wide range of internal experts to understand, model, and communicate the financial impact of transactions across a broad range of accounting and financial metrics, such as IFRS, US statutory, US tax, Swiss Statutory, and US GAAP
  • Understanding and communicating the implications of all risks through the use of models capable of scenario testing and risk capital estimation
  • Cross-functional disciplinary team due diligence and contract negotiation
  • Onboarding support to Finance and Portfolio Steering & Monitoring
The reinsurance transactions that LHSS underwrite require input from many teams in Swiss Re and thus proactive communication and a strong team spirit are vital. This role also provides extensive exposure to other functional areas and occasionally to the senior management of Swiss Re. About the Team Life and Health Structured Solutions (LHSS), which is part of Life & Health (L&H) Underwriting, is a global team comprised of over 30 professionals based in the United States, Canada, London, Zurich, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Our team has a wide variety of professional backgrounds and skill sets including actuarial, finance, treasury, project management and origination to name a few! Executing transactions such as financial solutions and large full risk transfer in-force and longevity transactions while working extensively with colleagues in regional Market Units, Client Markets, Financial Markets & In-Force Management, Risk Management, L&H Pricing & Contracts, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal and others, our team brings significant value to Swiss Re. About You You excel in a deadline-intensive environment with the ability to balance your strong technical skills with knowing when to step back to view the big picture . You bring excellent communication skills and a solid capability and willingness to engage with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues. Additional requirements include:
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical aspects of Life and Health insurance
  • Ability to interpret actuarial model output with regards to drivers of surplus emerging and other financials of life insurance and annuity portfolios
  • Finance, treasury, risk management, asset-liability management (ALM), or actuarial experience is strongly preferred
  • Quantitative/technical degree is strongly preferred
Nice to haves:
  • Familiarity with U.S. life and annuity policy features, policyholder behavior, and local statutory valuation and risk-based capital requirements
  • Knowledge of life insurance company regulatory reserve and capital requirements, and of current and emerging U.S. and/or Canadian regulatory and accounting topics
  • Understanding of derivatives and practical experience with capital markets hedging
  • Experience in cash flow modeling, stochastic modeling, and/or reporting

NOTE: This role can be an AVP or a VP role depending on the experience and skill sets of the successful candidate. For New York City the estimated base salary range for this position is $112,000 to $204,000. The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role within AVP or VP, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.
