Job Summary

The position of Student Accessibility Coordinator at Oberlin College and Conservatory, is a continuing full time Administrative and Professional Staff (A&PS) position reporting to the Assistant Director of the Office for Disability and Access (ODA) in the Division of Student Life. The Student Accessibility Coordinator is a generalist in the area of accessibility resources and provides support and assistance to students with disabilities to ensure access to the educational program. The Student Accessibility Coordinator will also complete general duties along with all other staff in the Division of the Student Affairs.

Responsibilities

The Student Accessibility Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the mission of the College by assisting in the daily support of planning, designing, advising, development and implementation of support programs, policies, and services for students with disabilities. This includes reviewing documentation, engaging in interactive discussions with students, and recommending the assignment of academic, housing, and dining accommodations.

The role involves collaboration with various campus offices to ensure equity, access, and compliance with relevant laws. The Student Accessibility Coordinator provides training and resources for faculty and staff to enhance the accessibility of classroom technology and digital media.

Essential Job Functions

Direct Student Support (60%)

This position is responsible for providing direct support and advocacy to students and assisting in the review of disability documentation for determination of appropriate accommodation and services to college students with disabilities. Documentation review may include interpreting medical, psychological, and psychiatric evaluations. Responsibilities include ensuring College compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act through the implementation of appropriate and effective accommodation. Utilize the Accessible Information Management (AIM) system to maintain records and services for students with disabilities

Office Administration (20%)

Oversee the daily operations of the Office for Disability and Access under the direction of the Assistant Dean and Director to ensure adherence to appropriate policies, procedures, and legal guidelines while providing a welcoming and supportive environment for students and guests within the office. Duties include developing and revising policies and procedures and monitoring office procedures to ensure conscientious use of budget resources and expenditures.

Program Coordination (10%)

This position will assist in the coordination and participation in ODA program events and Oberlin College campus events throughout the academic year to provide disability awareness and dissemination of program information. These may include resource fairs, workshops, training sessions, open houses, panel discussions, etc. Position will research new disability trends, legal updates, recommend relevant purchases and assist in the development of training procedures for students and staff.

Professional Development (5%)

This position works collaboratively with faculty and staff on issues of accommodation and compliance. Responsibility includes appointments to various campus committees and attending campus seminars and workshops, or professional conferences when funding permits for continued professional development. Professional development also includes review of articles, journals, and recent trends on disability issues to stay current in the field of postsecondary education for students with disabilities.

Other (5%)

Complete tasks as directed as part of the divisional student affairs team, such as staffing move in and move-out, participating in facilities readiness inspections, and staffing all-campus social events. Complete other duties as assigned.

Marginal Job Functions

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Education, Special Education, Human Services, Disability Services, Psychology, Social Sciences, or other appropriate field of study.

* The candidate should have a minimum experience of one year working with people with disabilities.

* Excellent verbal and communication skills.

* Knowledge and experience working with persons of diverse backgrounds.

* The individual must have knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn the legal standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

* Experience in reviewing medical and psychological evaluations is beneficial.

* Experience in developing relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, international origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and/or other aspects of human diversity.

Desired Qualifications

* Master's degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Professional Psychology, Social Sciences, Higher Education Student Affairs Leadership or another related field preferred.

* Three years' experience in a post-secondary setting working with students with disabilities and other high-risk students in a higher educational setting.

* A thorough working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

* Experience in reviewing or evaluating medical and psychological evaluations.

* Experience with Accessible Information Management (AIM).

* Experience with relevant assistive educational technologies.

* Experience conducting developmental advising designed to promote growth of student agency and self-efficacy.
