Job Description:

Harlem Children s Zone (HCZ) a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Student Advocate to support our After-School programs. The Student Advocate will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life. The Student Advocate will monitor the progress of our after-school students assigned to their caseload through regular contact and collaboration with the student, his/her parents, school staff, and all other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be able to develop individualized action plans to help students achieve academic, social, and personal success.   • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 1 year of experience working in youth development
  • Must have knowledge of the New York City school system

What you ll do
  • Promote academic, social, and personal success for over 25 students
  • Schedule school visits, and meet with guidance counselors and teachers to discuss student academic progress
  • Distribute and review bi-weekly progress reports
  • Schedule weekly advisement/counseling sessions with students
  • Develop curriculum and write lesson plans for career and college prep workshops and seminars
  • Maintain student files and draft case notes to document student progress
  • Maintain and develop parent involvement for all students
  • Support Harlem Children's Zone agency-wide programs and events
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule
  • On-Site (Monday through Friday)
  • High School, After-School (12 PM- 8 PM)
  • A Cut Above (11 AM - 7 PM)
  • Peacemaker Program (10 AM - 6 PM)
