POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Student Advocate
Reports To: Daly Elementary - Building Principal
FUNDING SOURCE: Title IA-Funded
ANNUAL STIPEND: $48,000
TERMS: Full time, 10-month Position with Fringe Benefits
Professional Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree in Social Work and/or Counseling required.
* Three year's successful service with at-risk students at the elementary level, preferred.
* Knowledge and/or willingness to learn Restorative Practices.
* Knowledge of and ability to effectively address a wide range of social, emotional, and developmental needs of students.
* CPI trained professional preferred; training will be provided.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To provide guidance and advocacy to students to ensure they meet academic and behavioral requirements to move to the next grade level while achieving high academic standards. To include students and their families in school and community resources, monitoring discipline, communicating behavior, social, and emotional interventions with classroom teacher, student support coordinator, administration, counselors, students and families.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
1. Communicates effectively, accurately and timely with students and their families to ensure a continuous school-family partnership exists.
2. Makes home visits to obtain information about students.
3. Maintains accurate records on student, parent, and staff contacts.
4. Participates in stakeholder conferences to develop student action plans.
5. Assists with the supervision of students during instructional and non-instructional time.
6. Supports a positive school climate while interacting with students, families, and staff.
7. Maintains confidentiality when dealing with students, families, and staff.
8. Facilitates social, behavioral, and emotional growth with students.
9. Willingness to participate in planning meetings with other staff members to best meet the individual cultural, emotional, and/or social needs of the students and/or for increased academic needs.

* Required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
* Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications.
* Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent's, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems.
* Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures; age appropriate activities; concepts of grammar and punctuation; health standards and hazards; keyboarding; pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; office methods and procedures

* Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited.
