What You Will Do:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Tampa Campus, the Student Affairs and Career Services Specialist will be the point person for student-oriented events, residencies, Commencement, and orientations. This position provides administrative, programmatic and operational support and coordination for specific student affairs areas such as student belonging, etc. Provides a full-range of student affairs support including advising students in navigating university/legal systems and process.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with assigned director(s) to develop, implement, and assess programs and initiatives aimed at supporting students. Coordinate and perform administrative, programmatic and operational functions in support of specific student affairs departments following area guidelines; respond to and facilitate referrals, requests for services or distribution of resource information; review, evaluate and make recommendations related to program services and procedures; assist in operational process and program development to ensure compliance with university/regulatory policies, procedures and guidelines. Coordinate student-oriented events including partnering with program chairs and advisors to plan residency weekends and orientations, serve as point-person for Commencement and the Commencement Committee, and partner with the NLU Social Media Manager to coordinate social media posts regarding events.
  • Advise and assist assigned students in navigating university/legal systems and process, getting engaged on campus, and walking through student conduct processes. Answer questions and serve as technical resource to students, faculty and others in assigned area of student services.
  • Train and provide work direction to student assistants and other personnel as assigned; assign and review work; participate in selection and evaluation processes as requested.
  • Manage assigned communications channels to include inboxes, webpages, and social media; Respond in a timely manner (1-2 business days) to inquiries and make referrals to relevant campus supports as needed; Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing new student orientation programs and other events; Prepare communications for relevant student policies, alerts, programming or events. Provides front desk coverage as needed. Attend Student Affairs department meetings as representative for Florida and serve as the liaison with Career Bridge services.
  • Handles confidential information. Collect students documentation for records. Prepare and process forms and other documents according to established requirements, policies and regulations. Assist with compiling and analyzing data and statistics and preparing detailed summaries and reports.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in student affairs, student engagement, career services, or other closely related field
  • Moderate experience with computers including Microsoft Office, internet applications and other programs
  • Bilingual/multilingual, a plus
  • Project Management - Manages each stage of a project to ensure that commitments are met in a manner that is timely and within budget. Clearly defines roles and responsibilities, determines necessary resources, and monitors project performance through appropriate systems and procedures.
  • Results Oriented - Achieves results within established timelines. Understands and demonstrates that intentions, activities and results are not the same. Expects that obstacles will occur and refuses to use them as an excuse for not achieving results.
  • Customer Focus - Personally demonstrates that external (or internal) customers are a high priority. Identifies customer needs and expectations and responds to them in a timely and effective manner. Anticipates and prevents delays or other things that can adversely affect the customer. Keeps customers informed about the status of pending actions and inquires about customer satisfaction with products or services.
  • Relationship Building - Builds rapport and develops alliances with a broad range of people. Adjusts communication style to meet the needs of individuals at various organizational levels and to meet the needs of clients. Forms alliances by demonstrating concern and respect for others, as well as by highlighting common interests and aspirations. Leave others feeling that he/she will be a trusted ally and is careful to act in ways that reinforce that trust over time.
