We aim to stimulate and provoke both graduate and undergraduate students, encouraging the development of independent and challenging thought as expressed and inscribed in the visual arts. We propose that art is inquiry. Our faculty, diverse in pursuits, is critically engaged in dialogue nationally and internationally. Our students benefit from this dialogue and are also encouraged to pursue areas of overlap with the many other disciplines represented at the University - history, art history, science, philosophy, aesthetics, theater, music, and creative writing to name a few. The staff in the Department support the teaching and research initiatives of its faculty and students. Job Summary Reporting to the Associate Director, the Student and Academic Affairs Administrator provides administrative support for the academic and administrative operations and services of the Department; assists with various academic projects such as course scheduling, faculty hires, and MFA admissions; plans and organizes events; maintains list serves and departmental wiki; tracks and processes expenses, reimbursements and payments; maintains the website and posts to social media accounts as needed; coordinates student travel; and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities In collaboration with the OPC Curator, arranges student trips, working with the University's international centers as well as travel agents, visa service agencies, and the Study Abroad office. Tracks and records student and alumni accomplishments and job placements. Partners with Logan Center staff to provide access lists for DoVA classrooms. Following DoVA policies, assigns and maintains accurate record of course numbers, including cross-list requests from other departments; consults DUS as needed. Assigns MFA and BA studios; accepts and returns studio deposits; works with Logan staff to manage studio move-in/out. Organizes and schedules MFA orientation including mandatory training with Logan and CCTL, faculty, building tours, etc. Orders catering, reserves rooms, arrangesfor set up/break down of departmental events, including weekly and quarterly critiques, admissions, and graduation parties. Maintains Departmental wiki. Updates website and social media postings. Manages department listservs. Keeps office organized and equipment working, scheduling maintenance as needed. Maintains office and breakroom supply inventories. Provides administrative support to the Chair and Associate Director. Assists with course scheduling, faculty hires, MFA admissions processes, and other academic projects. Facilitates job searches for DoVA, schedules interviews, prepares case files, arranges travel and lodging. Provides expertise in paying visiting artists, independent contractors, reimbursing students and faculty, and staying up-to-date in policies and procedures. Processes payments and reimbursements. Tracks and reconciles all charges to DoVA accounts. Stays abreast of financial activities. Attends trainings as needed to maintain up to date knowledge of financial systems, policies, and procedures. Processes course evaluations on a quarterly basis. Communicates with and schedules figure models. Schedules classes quarterly. Submits course schedules to registrar; shares proofs with faculty; checks for accuracy. Organizes yield events in consultation with DGS, Chair, and DoVA staff. Manag s admissions meetings and schedules interviews. Vets and prepares MFA applications for faculty review. Uses general understanding and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries. Analyzes program budgets and uses a moderate/high level of authority to recommend or makes budgetary recommendations. Interacts with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information. Performs other related work as needed.
