Position Type: High School Teaching/Student Assistance CoordinatorDate Posted: 8/28/2024Location: Hackensack High SchoolDate Available: 10/01/2024Closing Date: 09/07/24STUDENT ASSISTANCE COUNSELOR (SAC) HACKENSACK PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2024 - 2025 SCHOOL YEAR Description: Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC) - Leave Replacement Job Summary: Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates a comprehensive substance awareness program in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:40A-1 et seq. that includes;
  • Staff development concerning substance abuse issues and the district's programs and services.
  • Sharing information with students and parents concerning the Student Assistance Program.
  • Coordinated counseling, intervention, and treatment services.
  • Coordinated community and school programs and services.
  • Plans and implements, in cooperation with appropriate district personnel, comprehensive parent education and outreach programs following the guidelines of the state and district (N.J.S.A. 18A: 40A-16 et seq.) related to substance awareness and other concerns.
  • Collects and analyzes data regarding the substance use of students, the effectiveness of the programs and services of the district, and the need for new programs or modifications to existing programs.
  • Shares results with appropriate staff and uses the information to make recommendations.
  • Assists school and district administrators in the development and regular review of substance use policies and procedures, ensuring that they are effective and meet statute and code requirements.
  • Coordinates the process and procedures for reporting, examining, and treating students suspected of use and ensures that they are in compliance with statute and code (N.J.S.A. 18A:40A-12).
  • Attends required staff meetings and serves, as appropriate, on staff committees; Participates in program development and in the selection of materials to support school and district initiatives, including, but not limited to, School Violence Prevention Week, Red Ribbon Week, and Anti-Bullying.
  • Summarizes, interprets, and disseminates current developments in the substance use and counseling fields through the reading of professional journals, participation in professional development, and involvement in professional organizations.
  • Continues to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.
  • Serves as the HIB Coordinator.
  • Qualifications: 1. Hold a valid New Jersey Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC) certificate in accordance with the requirements of N.J.S.A. endorsement (N.J.A.C. 6:11-11.5) and appropriate endorsement(s) in accordance with the requirements of N.J.A.C. 6:11-10.1 et seq. 2. Have experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults; Demonstrate the ability to listen well to needs and concerns. 3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the components of a comprehensive substance awareness program, child growth and development, substance use assessment, and the resources available in the school and community to assist students. 4. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates sensitivity and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community. 5. Demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities. 6. Retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
