Description The Department of Toxic Substances Control's (DTSC) Office of Environmental Information Management is seeking to hire two (2) student assistants to assist in the daily operations of DTSC applications under the general direction of the Solutions, Development and Automation Manager and/or the Enterprise Architecture and Data Management Manager. The position is expected to begin by mid fall of 2024 and can continue on a part time basis during the subsequent school year. RequirementsConditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. To view our current affiliation list please paste the following URL into your browser: Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students. Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting. Majors/Fields of Study Computer Science (all concentrations), Information Technology (all concentrations), Management Information Science Work Schedule Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer). Minimum Qualifications
  • Understanding of Computer Science/Engineering, project scoping, planning, designing and implementing information technology (IT) systems.
  • Understanding of the basic concepts of IT hardware, software and telecommunications and networking for platforms supported by DTSC.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Must have the ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to analyze data and situations, reason logically and creatively, identify problems, draw valid conclusions, and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully with a variety of people with different backgrounds, experiences and attributes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to create Python scripts for multiple applications.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in designing and developing web applications and databases.
  • Researching and learning new technology solutions.
  • Create dashboards and reports.
  • Assist in automation of office processes, i.e., automate scheduled tasks on servers.
  • Assist with the daily operations of DTSC applications, including responding to Tier 1 helpdesk issues, assist with and observe the maintenance operations of IT Endpoints, and interact with customers to resolve a wide range of issues and requests.
  • Performing system and software upgrades.
  • Review procedure manuals for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in requirements gathering.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
