Library General Operations

Job Summary

The Student Assistant will support the Library General Operations as a Front Desk Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2025. The Front Desk Assistant will provide general information about the library facility and services.

Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

Responsibilities

* Answer phone promptly and courteously and either transfer call, take a message or handle circulation inquiry

* Arrange discharged items on book carts in call number order

* Assist patrons with computers, photocopiers, and scanning

* Charge/ Discharge circulating books and reserve items

* Empty book drop regularly (outside the library and book return at the Circulation Desk)

* Maintain paper and toner in printers.

* Sensitize books to be shelved in the circulating collection

* Shelf-read, dust, and straighten books in assigned areas

* Shelve circulating books

* Shelve journals and reference books

* Inventory books and ARC audit

* Charge/ Discharge GIL Express and ILL books

* Update patron records

* Assist with opening and closing the library as needed

* Arrange furniture within the library

* Dust & vacuum the checkout desk area and ARC

* Dust bookshelves including books

* Process Equipment

* Check the staff printer for on-shelf requests and find them

Shift Specifics

* Up to 10 hours per week

* Flexible with schedule of availability

* Several Shifts available - 7:30 AM - 2:00 AM

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

* Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Proposed Salary

$10.00 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
