Job Title Student Assistant - Maintenance (Housing Operations)
General Description
This is a student position responsible for assisting in the general operations of Housing Operations to keep Residence Halls and equipment in good operating condition. Position may be responsible for assisting in a variety of housing functions including, but not limited to, building operations, painting, plumbing, or any combination. Some job functions may require the use of varying levels of physical exertion. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Duties
1. Performs general housing operations and maintenance duties.
2. Prepares surfaces for painting.
3. Applies varying types of paint to machinery, equipment, furniture, building interiors, and/or building exteriors.
4. Performs general plumbing maintenance and/or repairs.
5. May perform work in varying environmental conditions including summer heat, winter cold, wind, rain, and/or humidity.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
2. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

Physical Demands
Some job functions may require the use of varying levels of physical exertion.
Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
