How You Will ContributeStudent Center Assistants are energetic, welcoming, and empathetic team members who will greet and organize student groups visiting the museum. This work includes all aspects of welcoming and processing groups as they arrive at the museum as well as supporting group scheduling by contacting groups in advance to confirm visits, answer logistical questions, and to follow up after their visits. Student Center Assistants provide excellent and responsive service to students and teachers visiting the museum that will help to ensure that students have a positive and quality field trip experience. The Student Center Team is constantly on the move; welcoming, organizing, and helping groups arrive and depart throughout the day.Specifically, you will:
  • Greet all groups and ensure smooth flow of visits: bus arrival/departures, lessons, lunches, self-touring.
  • Communicate with teachers, chaperones, and students to enforce museum guidelines and policies for both guided and unguided lessons.
  • Work with the Student Center Supervisor to troubleshoot logistical issues for each day including strategizing coat rack and stool distribution, as well as the lunchroom schedule for the day.
  • Move student coat racks and stool racks throughout the day as student groups need them.
  • With the Student Center Supervisor, oversee the student lunchroom, making sure that lunch schedule is flowing smoothly, and that the lunchroom is being cleaned in between lunch sessions.
  • Reset lunchroom for weekend studio classes.
  • Make reminder/confirmation calls to teachers about their upcoming visits. Send post lesson survey links to teachers.
  • Work with the Student Center Supervisor to distribute weekly schedules to School and Teacher Programs, Visitors Services, and Security staff.
  • Work with VSAs, Drive Attendant staff, Security, C Tech, Construction, Constellation, Educators, and Guides to make all constituents aware of logistics throughout building prior and during group's visit, including groups' needs (accessibility concerns, parking chasers, teacher requests, etc.)
  • Distribute any take home materials to school groups at the end of their lesson such as: Family passes.
  • Help with other School Group related activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Your background and experience include:
  • Experience in customer service-oriented jobs
  • Experience working in a busy atmosphere greeting and organizing groups
  • Experience and enjoyment working with school aged children
  • Ability to work productively as part of a team and independently
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills, must be a self-starter
  • Excellent computer skills, experience with reservation software a plus
Position and Compensation Details
  • The hourly rate for this position is $16.75
  • This position is part-time, non-exempt, and 18 hours per week
  • The schedule for this position is Mon, Thu, Fri 9am-3pm, with seasonal Tue/Wed shifts (through February 7, 2025).
  • This position is part of the AFSCME Local 397 bargaining unit
  • This position reports to the Student Center Supervisor
  • This position is a term position, beginning January 13, 2024 and ending in June 30, 2025
  • Physical requirements:
    • Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
    • Able to regularly set up, adjust, and operate a computer/keyboard and other office equipment used to generate work/transmit data
    • Able to move items up to 50 pounds
    • Able to move through crowded public spaces easily for hours at a time to direct student groups throughout the building
  • Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
  • PA Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Fingerprinting required.
