Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
The Student Computer Oversight and Activity Monitor will be responsible for monitoring students that are using school laptops through remote monitoring software. During education downtime or closures, this position will perform basic Tier 1 duties for the Facility IT manager.
Key duties include:
* Monitoring Student Activity: Supervise student activity on school-issued laptops to ensure compliance with school policies.
* Identifying Misuse: Detect and report any instances of misuse, such as inappropriate website access, chatting, attempts to bypass security, or other unauthorized activities.
* Incident Reporting: Document and report incidents of misuse to the Security team and the Education Services Technology Manager, including drafting detailed incident reports when necessary.
* Maintaining Logs: Keep accurate logs of daily monitoring activities, including any issues or irregularities observed.
* Communication: Collaborate with the Education Services Technology Manager to address recurring issues and suggest improvements to monitoring protocols.
* Follow-Up: Assist with follow-up actions on reported incidents, including tracking the resolution of issues and ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
* Support: Provide support during peak times or special projects, which may include monitoring during testing periods or assisting with IT-related tasks as needed.
* Tier 1 duties include computer refresh assistance, helpdesk phone and email monitoring, and other duties assigned by the Facility IT manager.
This role requires attention to detail, a high level of integrity, and effective communication skills to maintain a safe and productive digital learning environment for students.
Minimum Qualifications
* Strong understanding of computer systems, software applications, and online safety protocols;
* Proficient in using monitoring software, with the ability to quickly identify and address unauthorized or inappropriate activities;
* Demonstrated observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate records;
* Strong communication skills to effectively report incidents;
* Ability to have good judgment, integrity, and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
Additional Considerations
* Administrative skills include customer service and phone and email etiquette to facilitate and resolve employee requests;
* Ability to collect and document relevant information.
