Job Description:

The Student Council Sponsor is responsible for overseeing and supporting the activities of the Student Council for LAHS. The Student Council is a student-led group open to all students; to enhance the lives of the LAHS student body (a complete list of objectives can be found in the Student Council Constitution. The Sponsor works closely with the Activities Office, and LAHS administration, and reaches out to members of the community as necessary to help students complete their objectives. Student Council meetings are held once a week throughout the school year. Student Council plans homecoming events, fundraisers, spirit weeks, and pep rallies, and works with class events as needed. The Student Council also participates in New Mexico Association of Student Council events throughout the year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Overseeing the planning and execution of Homecoming Activities:

* Parade

* Homecoming court

* Homecoming dance

* Powder Puff Football Game

* Billy Bob Volleyball Game

* Bonfire

* Overseeing the planning and execution of pep rallies (number varies by year):

* Homecoming, Spring Sports, and Senior rallies are at a minimum.

* Overseeing the planning and execution of Spirit Weeks (dress-up days) and decorating competitions (number varies by year):

* Homecoming Week, Halloweek, Winter Door Decorating, Spring Fling, Lunch on the Lawn

* Overseeing the planning and execution of weekly information distribution:

* Weekly poster and/or whiteboard updates

* Weekly lobby slide deck

* Weekly student email

* Oversee the planning and execution of weekly Student Council meetings and other activities.

* Helping class officers and sponsors with class activities as needed:

* Spring Fling dance, Prom, senior activities, fundraisers.

* Registering for and overseeing participation in NMASC events throughout the year:

* 2 district events in Northeast New Mexico

* Spirit Stick

* Roll Call (competition)

* Lead workshops (optional)

* 1 state event (typically held in Albuquerque/Rio Rancho) - 3-day event (typically Turs-Sat) -

* Spirit Stick

* Roll Call (competition)

* Banner (competition)

* Scrapbook (competition)

* 2 Project Flyers (competition)

* Binder to be awarded Council of the Year (optional)

* 1 Summer Workshop (optional - LAHS has attended regularly) in Socorro - a 4-day event

* Spirit Stick

* Roll Call (competition)

* 1 National Conference (optional - LAHS does not attend often) - 3-day event

* Monitoring the Student Council Budget and making necessary purchases.

* Collaborating with LAHS administration, activities office, club sponsors, and staff for activities throughout the year.

* Overseeing the planning and execution of Student Council Elections

* Maintains strict confidentiality and safety practices

* Adheres to district rules, regulations, and policies

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

* N/A

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

* Must possess a valid New Mexico teaching license

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE:

* Previous experience with the Student Council preferred

OTHER SKILLS:

* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, students, and other LAPS staff.

* Ability to perform basic math and understand written procedures.

* Time Management skills

* Ability to plan events and coordinate student activities

* Ability to compose written documents

REASONING ABILITY:

* Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and events.

* Gather and understand data.

* Use basic job equipment

* Ability to solve problems and analyze information
