Description

The Kentucky School for the Deaf ensures that deaf and hard of hearing children and youth in Kentucky have educational opportunities to develop their potential to become educated, life-long learners and productive citizens. In partnership with families, local school districts and other services providers, KSD functions as a statewide education center where students come first.

Key Responsibilities:

* Supervise students in the dorm to maintain accountability for student's whereabouts, safety and welfare.

* Escort and supervise students to cafeteria, recreational activities and school sponsored events.

* Provide tutoring and homework assistance to students with varying learning styles, abilities and motivational levels.

* Plan outings and educational programs to reinforce life skills and ASL/English mastery.

* Supervise athletic practices, games and other school functions as needed.

* Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* American Sign Language (ASL) skills

This job classification is approved for the following shift premiums, in compliance with 101 KAR 2:034 Section 9(2), which are applied to the base salary:

* Second shift: 10%

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an instructional/counseling setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
