Job Description:

Applicant must be a current Carroll College student enrolled in at least 6 credits to be eligible to apply.

Department: Lewis & Clark Humane Society

Purpose of Job: Assists in assuring all animals in the shelter's guardianship are comfortable and treated with care and compassion. Above all else, practicing the humane treatment of animals. This position reports to the Animal Care Manager and Director of Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Clean and sanitize indoor and outdoor kennels, cat cages, and other animal cages as assigned.

* Provide adequate food, water, and care to the animals in the assigned areas.

* Assist with the daily washing of dog and cat bedding.

* Assist with the sweeping and mopping in the Main Building or Stray Pet Center.

* Observe and report any illnesses, or potential behavioral problems to the Animal Welfare Assistant or Director of Operations.

* Assist with medication of animals as supervised by the Animal Welfare Assistant, Animal Care Manager, or Director of Operations.

* Notify supervisor of any feeding or supply needs.

* Restock food, cat litterbins, paper towels, and cleaning solution after cleaning each day.

* Use equipment properly, reporting any malfunctions to the Animal Care Manager or Director of Operations.

* Provide guidance to volunteers while in the shelter.

* Provide a friendly helpful atmosphere for those visiting the shelter.

* Assist with general maintenance around the shelter as needed.

* Comply with all policies and procedures as outlined in the most current Procedures /Employee Manual.

* Work in harmony with other employees and assist in keeping all areas of the shelter neat and clean.

* Assist with the Cremation and Ash Recovery process (paw prints, ash processing, etc.).

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Animal experience, especially with dogs and cats, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, ability to bend, stoop, squat, and occasionally work on hands and knees for cleaning, ability to work under extreme noise levels and patience to work with difficult or aggressive animals.

Approximate Hours/Week: 10 hours per week

Special Time/Schedule Requirements: Flexible

Length of Employment: Academic Year

Wage Rate: $13.00/hour
